MOVEMENT IS HEALING- DANCE AN ART FORM- PBSFORTHEARTS-Nisha Designs

Acosia Red Elk1

From the Bowery Ballroom to the Sydney Opera House, the intertribal dance troupe Indigenous Enterprise is bringing traditional native dances centerstage. Presenting various powwow dance styles and dazzling regalia, the group drew the attention of NBC’s “World of Dance” on social media, and earned a place performing for Joe Biden’s presidential inauguration. Indigenous Enterprise premiered “Indigenous Liberation,” a stage performance that combines tradition and tech, last fall at the Joyce Theater in New York City. The troupe took the show to Los Angeles in March, performing at REDCAT in the Walt Disney Concert Hall Complex.

Dancer Acosia Red Elk of the Umatilla tribe recalls her performance on the stage at the Joyce. “I felt a little bit insecure because we had done nothing like that before,” the world-champion jingle dancer admitted.

These native dances are typically performed at competitions and powwows, and Acosia and the members of Indigenous Enterprise learned to adapt their styles for a more formal theater crowd. “We are trying to build bridges through art,” she said. “Every single one of us has learned about our own traditional cultures, powwow culture, and different cultures and their dance styles…that was the thing about the show at the Joyce.”

The 42-year-old dancer has been dancing for more than half of her life. Acosia has competed at several dance competitions, including the Gathering of Nations Powwow in Albuquerque, New Mexico, winning in several categories, but her main specialty is in the jingle dance. As a young girl, Acosia would attend powwows and admired the jingle dancers the most. “I had dreams about being a jingle dancer,” she said, “They say that most jingle dancers will dream about it before they ever become a jingle dancer.” The dance is also known as the healing dance or prayer dance as legend has it that a young girl was healed by the sound of jingles made by tin ornaments clinking together on a dress.

When she was six years old, Acosia was caught on fire, leaving her with scars, followed by a low point in her life. Some years later, her sister made a dress for her and encouraged her to start dancing. “It completely changed my life,” she said. “Dancing healed me from the inside out. As a jingle dancer, [I] feel a responsibility to be on [my] best behavior, be kind to others, think good thoughts, [and] remember to pray even when [I’m] out there dancing in competition.”

WEEKLY REFLECTIONS- JULY 5- JULY 11, 2021- DIVINATION- HERBIARY ORACLE- DAISY- POEM- NISHANTE DIVINELOVE

The energy of daisy invites us to reflect upon being your trueself, soul self. It is not hard to be yourself, your true self, soul self. Matter of fact this is what we want to be all the while and so then why aren’t we able to maintain being our true self and making it our way of being, way of life? What makes it hard is one’s holding onto one’s self judgment, outdated habits and patterns that one has learned and acquired from culture, religion, outside influences, limited belief systems, one’s inability to accept, acknowledge and face one’s fears of what one has believed about oneself, the choices you have made good, bad or indifferent and the actions you took to validate your ego self. Daisy is here to help and assist you with softening up that rigidity you have build around you about yourself that you don’t want to look at. Reflect upon those walls. Bring a pot of daisies or a stem of daisy and meditate and ask it to show you how to self accept you so you can let go of this rigidity. Because underneath this wall is your true self, your soul the unique, the giving, the compassionate, the beautiful soul. The energy is available for you to let go and come into self acceptance and embrace the true you. It’s okay if you don’t know you. Accept and begin the journey of knowing you in the now. With the help of Daisy allow this opening of your heart and experience being you. The time is NOW. See you through the eyes of your own soul.

Affirmation: I am now in complete self acceptance of my true self.

Weekly Reflections -6/20/21-6/26/21- Divination- Seed- Nishante Divinelove

Affirm: I am one with the spiritual world of my true self.

This week the energy invites us to reflect on the Seed. The soul of the seed. A seed is brought to life by its soul and the soul of the seed here is Gaea, Mother Earth. Without the soul, without Mother Earth the physical form which is the seed has no value until the soul breathes and gives life to its physical form, the seed. You the physical form has no value until your soul gives you the seed the life that your soul has designed for you. You are the seed of your soul. In order for you to thrive, to grow, to know how to live, what is best for you, your purpose as the seed of your soul one must connect with the soul isn’t it? If the seed starts to look at other seeds and wants to grow how other seeds are growing and not how it soul wants the seed to grow what do you think will happen? The seed will struggle, the seed will grow painfully because it focused on other seeds than its own. Without your own souls awareness, knowledge, breadth one cannot grow and know there true self. Every seed has its own purpose to serve and to know its purpose that seed must look to his/ her own soul not to anyone else or anything outside of its soul. If GAEA is the soul of a seed then Gaea knows what that seed is capable of doing, what is best for that seed. Does the seeds best interest, purpose is to become a tree, flower, blade of grass what is the seed’s purpose is what soul decides not the physical form. So your soul already has decided and knows what the seed, you is all about. From the birth of the seed, you till your life’s end your soul has designed her/his seed’d life already. No one outside of me can know that because they are not my soul, not my source of knowledge, information not my path. Be the seed of your soul and watch the magick. Magick comes from being one with our true self, one with our spiritual world.

Miracle- Nishante- Nisha Designs

Miracle: how you choose to look? If you see and believe in miracle is sure is miracle. If you see problems then sure will be problems. If you see fear then sure there will be fear. Think of all of your emotions as people. Would you allow the person name problem to enter your home? Would you allow the person named fear to come inside your home? I am hoping not. So why would you let any of these beings/ people/ energy live inside of you? Who do you want to allow in your home/ your sacred body is always your choice. There is always order/ miracle amidst of chaos. It’s how you choose to look at it, how you choose to believe it. This is the unknown right here today that we have come face to face. That you have to trust. Matter of fact you have no choice but to trust now isn’t it? Which is a Miracle in itself. Don’t you think? Nothing could get you to this place but self quarantine? Unknown will take care of you if you are choosing to do the right thing. Walking your truth. You have to believe in it first then you will see the miracle not the other way around. So many of you fear unknown? It’s funny isn’t it now that you have no where to go but have faith and trust in the unknown. No where to go but deal with your own self? Your own way of being while you are under quarantine? I am sure the thoughts inside of you don’t let you rest, relax be at peace isn’t it? Constant chatter? Moving? Don’t know what to do with yourself and how to be yourself? Hmm. Yes this is where self work, meditation comes in. Discipline comes in, spiritual studies come in. Working on yourself, meditation all these are tools given to us to show us how to live. But we chose to become so busy with stuff and life and being self centered and pointing fingers at others, that I am right and you are wrong and about money and racism that looking inside and taking responsibility of our own stuff was never a priority? That we took no time to stop, listen, breathe?🙈Now that you are quarantined who is truly going to help you here? There is no one outside of you to help you trust? Help you relax? Help you rest? Is there? It all comes from within and when you are so disconnected within you there is nothing that can help you but you. This virus does not see where you from? What your color, race, religion is? Miracle isn’t it? How Goddess Mother Nature knows how to stop the madness that was happening? Miracle a state and a way of living and being. It’s never too late to go within and learn to be one with yourself.
