The Doors of Tunisia- Authentic Traveling
It’s nearly impossible to visit Tunisia without noticing the beautiful doors. They’re everywhere. I often found myself lost in an ancient medina only to look at my camera roll and realize I’d spent the last 30 minutes taking pictures of doors.
In Tunisia, doors are symbolic reflecting the fortunes and happiness of the families living inside. They are generally built of palm wood reinforced with sheet metal. They are decorated with black studded nails to create complex geometric patterns. Occasionally some doors come with more floral patterns owing to the European influence.
When I visited Tunisia, I was just blown away by these doors. They’re so beautiful, and every city I visited tended to have its own unique style and color. Most doors are blue, but I saw yellow, turquoise, red, and white.
Some of the most common symbols on the doors are the crescent star, minarets flowers, and fir trees. Some of the doors have large archways allowing for a person to enter on a horse without dismounting.
Many will claim that the best doors are in Sidi Bou Said – the Santorini-like coastal town just outside Tunis – but I found that beautiful doors are located throughout the country. You just need to wander down the right side street to find the real treasures.
Most of the doors have two knockers – one for the men and one for the women. The ones on the left are used by the women, and the ones on the right are used by the men.

Be Yourself: No matter what we do, where we at we must learn to own who we are. I wanted to do something inspiring with words for a 12 year old beautiful, witty, innocent and a charming young girl. Guardian of Gaia, lover of animals, nature. This painting will give her hope, strength to not give up and will always pull her back to who she is inside when she finds herself lost in the ebb and flow of life. The Door
The Door: The door symbolizes a new beginning, when one door closes other opens. A focus is brought to the sacral and heart chakras. Orange represents joy, creativity, success, encouragement, change, stimulation, sexuality, freedom, expression. And green represents renewal, nature, growth, environment, money. She is passion, understanding, strength, knowledge, will, sensual, a warrior, a beautiful companion, friend, a mother and a leader of her own creations. She is the soul within us. Getting ready to be fully manifested to owning, accepting who she is, taking charge to serve the greater good of humanity and the balance as she walks the path of her truth. Wherever she goes there’s beauty and creation, freedom and joy, wonder and magic, stability and abundance. I bow to her presence and style. She becomes who she is. She is not a dream. She is Real. Nisha Art: Custom Paintings
Every art has a story. No matter what form of art it is. It is a story of imagination. And here’s mine. Art was my to go escape from reality as a kid and then it became my passion, my career. But now there is no need to escape anymore because my imagination is my reality. I loved just to sit and paint all day long. Sometimes for hours and hours where I would not get up from my chair. It gave me peace, brought me a to world of belonging. Where I could be me and just paint away. Every painting, still life, textile, design I created has a personality, a character an imagination. No matter if I was just painting a flower, stem, Apple. They all had their own story to share. Preparation of my art materials excites me and is very important to me. My space where I would sit and do art, my wooden palette, my colors, brushes, water, a rag, tissue, the style and texture of my medium I am painting on. Everything even till today is very detailed and thoughtful. This preparation is my temple, my sacred place where no one could go but me. It was for me. Always there for me. Whenever I wanted I could go and be me. Be me with my paints and brushes and ready to play. Once I am prepared I sit and listen to my imagination, the story it wants to share about that thing or the person I am painting for. The mixing of colors, the depth of layers, the details, highlights, shadows, composition. It makes my paintings come alive. My art gives me purpose to live, hope, strength, put words when I didn’t have. It shared my happiness and tears. Yes. Art is just not a piece that we hang on the wall or any design on any medium. To me its a sacred friend, a place, a world only for you. That piece of art, design knows you and only you. It will always lift you up no matter where you are in life. And this is what I love when I create art or any design. And these are the stories I will be sharing. Hope you enjoy as much as I have enjoyed making them. They all speak to an individual I did paintings for and what my imagination told me about them. It was very inspiring for me to paint their imagination.
